MPs Call for Support for Vulnerable Groups Through Tax Reform
Members of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance have called for support for the most vulnerable social groups through the proposed tax reform. DISY MP Onoufrios Koullas stressed the need to end tax uncertainty and proposed strengthening low and middle incomes, supporting families, improving entrepreneurship, and simplifying the tax system.
Mr. Koullas advocated for the complete abolition of stamp duty, calling it an outdated tax. He also expressed his belief that there is room for reasonable tax relief for businesses and households.
AKEL MP Christos Christofidis referred to the proposal to increase the tax-free income, noting that President Christodoulidis had promised a tax-free income of €24,500 during the election campaign. He stressed that the tax reform fails to address the widening social inequalities.
