Parliament Passes New Product Safety Law 2025

The House of Representatives unanimously passed the new Product General Safety Law of 2025, replacing the laws of 2004-2010. It aligns with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety.
The aim is to protect consumers and oversee the market, focusing on the safety of non-food products, online sales, the recall of dangerous products, and consumer rights.
The Safety Gate is designated as the single point of contact, with the Consumer Protection Service as the competent authority. The authority's powers are strengthened, including the seizure of products and the imposition of measures. Increased penalties and fines are foreseen, as well as enhanced compensation obligations.
Economic operators have clear obligations for risk assessment, informing authorities and consumers, product recall, and cooperation in inspections.
