Parliament Discusses Voluntary Profession Waiver for MPs

The Parliamentary Committee on Institutions concluded its discussion on the bill regarding the voluntary waiver of professional practice by MPs and other officials. MP Marinos Mousiouttas, from DI.PA., expressed hope that the proposal would be put to a vote in the Plenary Session of Parliament before the summer recess.
The bill stipulates that each MP or official may voluntarily waive the right to practice any other profession during their term. According to Mr. Mousiouttas, the Legal Service deemed the proposal constitutionally sound, although opposing views were also voiced.
Mr. Mousiouttas emphasized that the proposal aims to promote transparency and enhance the reputation of officials, calling on parties to decide which line they will follow regarding similar proposals.
