The United Kingdom is playing a supportive role in the current efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue, according to a British Foreign Office source speaking to the RIK correspondent in London.

The statement followed the five-party meeting in New York, where the UK was represented by Foreign Office Minister, Stephen Doughty. Mr. Doughty had stated in a post that the UK remains committed to finding a solution under the auspices of the United Nations.

The official position of the United Kingdom is to support UN resolutions for a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation with political equality.

A report in the "Independent" stated that Prime Minister Starmer seeks to end the division in Cyprus and is pursuing an international agreement. This includes the recent visit of Ersin Tatar to London, where he met with a British Foreign Secretary in a government office.
