British PM: No Offensive Operations from Cyprus Bases

The President of the Republic had a phone call with the UK Prime Minister regarding geopolitical developments.

During the call, the President emphasized the role of the Republic of Cyprus as a pillar of stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and the need to strengthen cooperation with the United Kingdom.

The President informed the British Prime Minister about the need for a coordinated initiative to de-escalate the crisis, highlighting the use of multilateralism.

The British Prime Minister agreed and referred to the joint statement by the United Kingdom with other states regarding the Strait of Hormuz.

Regarding the British Bases in Cyprus, President Christodoulides presented a proposal to start discussions.

The British Prime Minister reiterated that the security of the Republic of Cyprus is fundamental and that the British Bases will not be used in offensive military operations.

The two leaders agreed to remain in close contact.
