Haritsis: Criticism of the government regarding the agricultural issue

The president of Nea Aristera (New Left), Alexis Haritsis, strongly criticized the government regarding its handling of the agricultural issue during a discussion in the Plenary of the Parliament.

Mr. Haritsis accused the government of infuriating farmers with its policies, referring to recent mobilizations and farmer blockades. In particular, he referred to deductions from ELGA (Hellenic Agricultural Insurance Organization) amounts before the payment of subsidies, calling this action illegal.

The president of Nea Aristera proposed the reorganization of OPEKEPE (Paying Authority of Common Agricultural Policy) with transparency and meritocracy, support for farmers against profiteering, strengthening cooperative schemes, and immediate satisfaction of the demand for cheap electricity.

Finally, he referred to the restructuring plan of ELTA (Hellenic Post), arguing that the government is deserting the countryside, stripping away anything public and giving space to private interests.
