Christodoulides: National Guard to Purchase Equipment from Cypriot Companies

President Christodoulides announced that the National Guard will proceed with the purchase of equipment from Cypriot companies. The announcement was made in the context of the European Council in Brussels, where the EU's defense and security were discussed.

The President stated that a clause for 15% participation of Cypriot companies has been included in any purchase of defense equipment from third countries.

Regarding Ukraine, President Christodoulides said that the continuation of sanctions by the EU is considered a strategic choice. He also stressed the need for effective implementation of sanctions by countries connected to the EU.

Regarding the EU's competitiveness, the President underlined its importance and referred to the initiative to postpone the taxation related to greenhouse gas emissions.

Finally, on the Schengen issue, the President said that he raised the issue of the full integration of the Republic of Cyprus within 2026.
