Christodoulides: Pension and DISY Criticism

President Nikos Christodoulides announced that he will donate his public service pension, amounting to €730 per month, to Community Volunteerism Councils for elderly care. This move comes after the publication of the relevant law in the official gazette of the Republic.
DISY criticized the move, arguing that the President should have waived the pension from the outset. In its announcement, DISY disputed the length of Christodoulides's service as Minister of Foreign Affairs, incorrectly stating that he served for five years.
The columnist calls on the president of DISY, Annita Demetriou, and the members of parliament to waive their parliamentary pensions, which amount to €1,352 per month after one term, without contributions to Social Insurance. He also points out the highly paid allowances of parliamentarians, which are not subject to contributions.
Finally, the columnist refers to the decision of the President's wife to take unpaid leave to organize her office as First Lady, and criticizes the criticism leveled at the President despite the donation of his pension.
