Christodoulides to CoE Secretary General: Detention of 5 Greek Cypriots Unacceptable

The President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset, and stressed the need for a solution to the Cyprus issue based on UN resolutions. He also described the detention of five Greek Cypriots by the occupying regime as "unacceptable."
According to the Government Spokesperson, Constantinos Letymbiotis, the meeting reaffirmed the common commitment to the peaceful resolution of conflicts and the preservation of European values.
Mr. Letymbiotis emphasized that Mr. Berset's visit to Cyprus underscores the importance of cooperation and confirms that the Republic of Cyprus is a voice for international law and human rights.
President Christodoulides highlighted the importance of fully implementing the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights, both in relation to Ukraine and in relation to Cyprus, where the Turkish invasion and ongoing occupation violate international law.
Developments in the Middle East were also discussed, where the Republic of Cyprus plays a crucial role in humanitarian aid.
