The Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chryssochoidis, announced a new plan to address traffic congestion in Athens, which includes the deployment of 150 police officers on the streets and the extensive use of cameras.

According to the minister, fines will soon be issued via "smart cameras" for violations of the Traffic Code. He also mentioned a new Joint Ministerial Decision allowing passengers to take over the vehicle in cases of mild intoxication (0.20-0.40 alcohol), in order to avoid impoundment by the traffic police.

Mr. Chryssochoidis also referred to the case of the death of a 20-year-old in Thessaloniki, emphasizing that the police will soon provide answers and those involved will be brought to justice. Regarding violence, he noted that it has moved outside the stadiums and that the goal is to dismantle criminal groups.

Finally, he referred to the death of two prisoners in Korydallos prisons, saying that the circumstances are being investigated and responsibilities will be assigned where they exist.
