Cyprus: Migration Policy Yielding Positive Results, Says Deputy Minister

The Deputy Minister of Migration highlighted that the government's migration policy is yielding results, based on relevant data and figures.
In his statements, Mr. Ioannidis mentioned that the goal is a sustainable asylum system. Since January of this year, 1,100 arrivals and new asylum applications have been recorded, while 8,500 repatriations and resettlements have taken place.
The Deputy Minister added that irregular migrants enter the free areas through the occupied territories, with the help of traffickers from African countries. In addition, individuals with criminal behavior have been deported. The Pournara accommodation center now houses 250 people, compared to 3,000 in 2022.
