The Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection responded to PASOK's presentation of a 'Black Book' regarding the government's management of Civil Protection, arguing that the opposition's claims are disproven in practice.

In a statement, the ministry said that the Fire Service's human resources have been significantly strengthened, reaching 18,000 employees today, from approximately 14,000 in 2019. In addition, it emphasized the increase in aerial assets, with 80 to 85 aircraft and helicopters operating daily during the fire season.

In detail, the ministry's announcement states:

  • Staff reinforcement: 29% increase in Fire Service staff.
  • Special Forest Operations Units (EMODE): Creation of 21 units throughout the territory.
  • Seasonal firefighters: Now signing 8-month contracts.
  • Volunteer firefighters: Increase to over 4,900.
  • Aerial means: 46% increase compared to 2019.
