Education Minister: Urgent Need for a Modern School

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, in a written statement, emphasized the urgent need to transition to a modern, human-centered school. The results of the pancyprian exams, promotions, as well as findings from national and European studies, confirm this need.

Ms. Michaelidou stated that international surveys such as PISA and TIMSS, as well as local assessments, provide valuable documentation for upgrading the education system at the level of structures, content, and processes.

The Minister added that despite the significant financial investment in education, learning outcomes do not reflect the capabilities of children and the system. Therefore, strategies are being promoted to optimize resources and adopt more effective educational policies.

The educational reform, according to the Minister, is based on vision, know-how, and political will, with the aim of shaping active citizens and strengthening a resilient economy.
