Cyprus Education Ministry Faces Pressure Over Teacher Positions

Educational organizations POED, OELMEK, and OLTEK are holding an emergency meeting today regarding the issue of permanent positions for teachers and a potential breach of agreement by the Ministry of Education (ΥΠΑΝ).

According to the organizations, the Ministry may not be promoting the increase in permanent positions, as agreed in 2023, with the aim of reducing contract teachers. Myria Vasiliou, president of POED, and Dimitris Taliadoros, president of OELMEK, have expressed concerns about a possible breach of the agreement.

The organizations have already requested the intervention of the President of the Republic and do not rule out taking action in case of non-compliance.
