Sydney Sweeney Faces Box Office Failure After Ad Controversy

Sydney Sweeney's new film, "Americana," has experienced low box office numbers in the US following backlash over her involvement in an American Eagle advertisement. The ad was accused of promoting a "eugenics agenda" and "Nazi propaganda" due to the use of the word "genes" in relation to "jeans."
The film, a crime thriller directed by Tony Tost, grossed only €778,000 in 1,100 theaters in the United States, ranking 16th in earnings. Despite Lionsgate's statement that the film is part of a "multi-platform strategy," the American press speculates that Sweeney is "paying the price" for the controversial advertisement.
The American Eagle ad, in which Sweeney discussed how genes determine characteristics, received support from the MAGA movement and Donald Trump. Public voter records also revealed that Sweeney is a registered member of the Republican Party in Florida.
Following the backlash, American Eagle issued a statement emphasizing that they will continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence.
