Reactions have surfaced following Mel Gibson's decision to change the cast for the sequel to 'The Passion of the Christ'. Fans of the original 2004 film have expressed their dissatisfaction on social media regarding the replacement of the lead actors.

According to Variety, the decision to recast is due to the high cost of CGI and digital de-aging. Jim Caviezel, who played Jesus in the first film, will not return, with Jaakko Ohtonen taking over the role.

The selection of Ohtonen, a white actor, has also sparked discussions about historical accuracy. Mariela Garriga will play Mary Magdalene, replacing Monica Bellucci.

The new film, titled 'The Resurrection of the Christ', will take place three days after the Crucifixion and will be filmed in southern Italy. The premiere of the first part is scheduled for March 26, 2027, and the second part for May 6, 2027.
