Barack Obama: Defeats Tom Hanks to Win 5th Emmy

Barack Obama won his 5th Emmy Award, prevailing over Tom Hanks and other nominees. The former US president was awarded in the best narrator category for the 'Indian Ocean' episode of the Netflix documentary series 'Our Oceans', at Sunday's (7/9) Creative Emmy Awards.
This is the third time Obama has been awarded as a narrator. He won in 2022 and 2023 for 'Our Great National Parks' and 'Working: What We Do All Day', and also won two Emmys for children and families.
This year's victory is particularly significant as he faced names such as David Attenborough, Idris Elba and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The 'duel' with Tom Hanks had a symbolic dimension, as Obama had awarded him the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016.
Obama has also been awarded two Grammys.
