Nurses in Cyprus Request Retirement at 60

The Pancyprian Nurses Union has officially submitted a request for retirement at 60 for nurses working on rotating and night shifts. They state that nurses have exceeded their endurance limits.
The General Secretary of PA.SY.NO, Savvas Iakovou, stated that the union is requesting the establishment of a retirement age limit of 60, instead of the current 65 and 67. He points out that many nurses over 60 cannot fully perform their duties, affecting the quality of healthcare provided.
PA.SY.NO argues that Cyprus should align with European practices, where the retirement age for high-strain professions is lower. Similar proposals for early retirement exist in other sectors, such as the security forces.
Nikos Loizidis proposed a voluntary exit scheme for police officers after 55 and officers after 56, due to the high average age in the police force.
The proposals are in the hands of the Chief of Police and the Minister of Justice.
