The creation of new child and adolescent protection facilities in Cyprus faces difficulties due to reactions from local communities and a lack of space. Despite the recognized need for these facilities, finding suitable locations and gaining acceptance from local communities proves challenging.

A characteristic example is the recent case in the Moni community, where reactions were expressed against the potential allocation of state land for the creation of a child protection facility. The Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare clarified that it concerns a child and adolescent protection home, not one for unaccompanied minors.

According to REPORTER sources, meetings have been held with local authorities to find spaces, but there are obstacles. Also, the lack of clarity regarding the type of facilities and programs creates reservations.

According to data from the Social Welfare Services, the creation of fifteen new child and adolescent protection projects is being promoted through the Recovery and Resilience Plan, including Children's Homes, Homes for Girls and Boys, Accommodation Homes, Specialized Homes for underage mothers, Adolescent Day Centers and an Interdisciplinary Center for Child Victims of Violence.

The director of the Social Welfare Services, Maria Kyratzi, emphasized the importance of creating such facilities in the communities so that children can enjoy their rights and integrate into society.
