Marxist Thinker Eftychis Bitsakis Passes Away

Marxist philosopher and activist Eftychis Bitsakis has passed away at the age of 98. He was a member of EPON (United Panhellenic Organization of Youth), sentenced to death and imprisoned for many years during the Greek Civil War.
Eftychis Bitsakis studied chemistry at the University of Athens, theoretical physics and philosophy in Paris. He taught at the University of Paris XI (Orsay) and the University of Paris VIII, before returning to Greece as a researcher at the National Hellenic Research Foundation and a professor of philosophy at the University of Ioannina.
He was a member of the KKE (Communist Party of Greece) until 1989 and later joined the New Left Current. He played a leading role in the journals Σύγχρονα Θέματα (Modern Issues), Διαλεκτική (Dialectic) and Ουτοπία (Utopia).
Eftychis Bitsakis wrote extensively on topics of dialectical philosophy and defended the achievements of modern physics. He was an opponent of irrationalism and a supporter of a secular morality for social emancipation.
