Denmark: Newborn Removed From Mother Due to Her Childhood Abuse

A newborn girl was taken away from her mother in Denmark just one hour after birth. Authorities cited "parental fitness" tests, despite a ban on their use for citizens of Greenlandic descent.
18-year-old Ivana Nikoline Bruunlund, from Greenland, gave birth to her daughter, Aviaja-Luna, on August 11. One hour later, the infant was transferred to foster care. The decision was based on a psychological assessment that deemed Bruunlund an unfit mother due to trauma from abuse she suffered as a child by her stepfather.
The case has sparked outrage, as "parental fitness" tests (FKU) have been banned for people of Greenlandic descent since the beginning of the year. Danish Minister for Social Affairs, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, has requested explanations regarding the case.
Bruunlund is only allowed to see her daughter twice a month, for two hours each time, under supervision. Her appeal will be heard on September 16.
