Are You a Serial Fixer? Signs You Might Be
Share on:

Do you have a tendency to 'fix' others? Do you feel like you can make them better? You might be a serial fixer.

There's a fine line between caring and taking on other people's responsibilities. Serial fixers are compassionate and willing to help, but often end up feeling emotionally drained.

How to tell if you're a serial fixer:

  • Anxious thoughts after conversations
  • Guilt that you didn't do enough
  • Overanalyzing conversations
  • Feeling that your worth is defined by how helpful you are to others

This over-involvement can wear you down. When you carry everyone's emotional baggage, who carries yours?

What you can do:

  • Listen with empathy. You don't always need to provide a solution.
  • Don't absorb the emotions of others.
  • Don't take responsibility for change.
  • Ask yourself, 'Is this my job?'

You can help, but you don't need to take on the entire burden of other people's problems.
