Urgent Appeal for Blood Donations Amid Critical Shortage in Cyprus

Blood reserves in Cyprus have reached a critical point, increasing the risk of postponing surgeries and transfusions, particularly for thalassemia patients. The Blood Center has informed thalassemia patients of the shortage, warning of potential problems with scheduled appointments.
The head of the Blood Center urged citizens to donate blood before their holidays. The president of the Pancyprian Thalassemia Association, Miltos Miltiadous, emphasized that blood transfusion is the only treatment for some patients. "August is perhaps the most difficult month. Our blood needs increase, while reserves decrease," he said.
Mr. Miltiadous added that the Blood Center warned of possible cuts in transfusions. The head of the Blood Center, Androulla Panagiotou, made an urgent appeal, noting that daily needs reach 300 bottles. Blood donations are scheduled at the Mall of Nicosia, and blood donation stations will operate with extended hours in all cities.
Nicosia and Limassol: 7:30 AM - 8:00 PM
Paphos and Larnaca: Full-day hours.
Every blood donation can save lives.
