The Commissioner for the Protection of the Rights of the Child, Despo Michaelidou, has issued a report regarding the denial of retroactive payments to children with disabilities who are entitled to a Minimum Guaranteed Income.

The report highlights delays of up to 18 months in the evaluation of applications, resulting in the denial of retroactive payments. Ms. Michaelidou emphasizes that the non-payment of retroactive amounts has inhumane consequences, as these amounts cover therapies and basic needs.

The Commissioner underlines that international conventions prevail over national laws and decrees, requiring the retroactive payment of the benefit to the children.
