Increased Security on Public Transport with Additional Police Officers

An additional 50 police officers are joining the "Ariadne" program to enhance security on public transport, according to an announcement by the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis.

The total number of police officers participating in the program now stands at 270. The "Ariadne" plan includes, among other things, foot patrols on trains and buses, police presence at stations, and mobile patrols alongside routes.

According to Mr. Chrysochoidis, during the four months of the plan's implementation, 54,671 checks have been carried out (21,876 on METRO-TRAM-ISAP, 16,074 on the Suburban Railway, and 16,721 on buses) and 900 arrests have been made (299 on METRO-TRAM-ISAP, 276 on the Suburban Railway, and 325 on buses).

Of the arrests, 425 were related to drug possession, 286 to illegal aliens, 49 to thefts and robberies, and 37 to weapons law violations. The additional 50 police officers are distributed as follows: 136 on ISAP-TRAM-METRO, 47 on the Suburban Railway, and 87 on buses.

The minister emphasized that security is inextricably linked to the daily lives of citizens and that public transport is a strategic pillar of sustainable urban mobility.
