Tension at Paphos Church: Clash Between Former and Current Committee Members
Share on:

Tension arose at a village church in the Paphos district last weekend due to a clash between a former and a current member of the church committee.

According to reports, a former committee member entered the sanctuary on Saturday and asked a member of the current committee to leave, leading to a verbal altercation. On Sunday, the same individual reportedly returned and entered the sanctuary despite the priest's requests, causing further tension. A committee member warned that the police would be called, resulting in the individual leaving and complaining to the parishioners.

The previous church committee had been dismissed by decision of the former Metropolitan of Paphos, Tychikos, and an order followed for repeat elections in the Tsada Church Committee. The new four-member committee consists of Vasos Georgiou, Daniel Makariou, Dimitra Georgiadou, and Sozos Sofokleous.

Tensions have arisen since the election of the new committee, with former members expressing objections. A source from the current committee stated that the previous committee faced problems, which contributed to its dismissal by the former Metropolitan Tychikos. There were also reportedly complaints about incidents that caused disturbance in the community.
