Saint Tryfon came from Lampsakos in Phrygia and lived during the reigns of Emperors Gordian, Philip, and Decius. He healed illnesses and purified souls. Emperor Gordian asked him to heal his daughter, but Tryfon refused honors and money.

Under Decius, he was arrested and tortured for being a Christian. He refused to sacrifice to idols and was martyred. Christians received his relics and sent them to Lampsakos.

Justinian built a church dedicated to Saint Tryfon in Constantinople.
