The Orthodox Church commemorates today, Monday, January 15th, the memory of St. Paul of Thebes, who is considered the first hermit and father of anchoritic monastic life.

Saint Paul lived in the 3rd century and withdrew to the desert of Thebes. The Church honors him as a model of trust in God, silence and temperance.

According to the list of feast days, St. John Kalyvitis, St. Gerasimos Palladas and St. Ita are also honored.

Today Palladas are celebrating their name day.
