The Parliamentary Committee on Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance discussed the need to take measures to support people with kidney failure and ensure an acceptable standard of living.

AKEL MP, Marina Nikolaou, stressed that kidney failure is a serious and chronic condition that affects the lives of sufferers physically and mentally. She emphasized the need for the state to recognize the special needs of these individuals and act with social sensitivity.

Ms. Nikolaou mentioned that there is no structured policy in Cyprus to support people with kidney failure. The competent Ministries pledged to return within two months with proposals. A study was also conducted by the Parliamentary Research and Publications Service, which showed that Cyprus lags behind in this issue.

Ms. Nikolaou suggested following good practices from other member states of the European Union.
