Study: How Your Relationship Affects Success at Work

New research reveals that a partner's personality can significantly impact professional success. The research, based on an analysis of approximately 4,500 participants in Australia, examined how partners' personality traits correlate with job satisfaction, promotions, and income.
The 'Big Five' personality traits (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Openness to experience, Neuroticism, Conscientiousness) were used to assess participants. The research showed that a conscientious partner (responsible, disciplined, and organized) is associated with a greater likelihood of promotion, job satisfaction, and higher income for their partner.
Conscientious partners tend to take on more household chores and positively influence their partner, creating an environment conducive to professional success. Satisfaction with the relationship reduces problems at home, leaving more mental resources for work.
Researchers note that partners who spend time together interact, and a conscientious partner can enhance the conscientiousness of the other, creating a cycle of mutual reinforcement of professional success.
