Up to 700 New Prostate Cancer Cases Annually in Cyprus

Approximately 600 to 700 new cases of prostate cancer are recorded annually in Cyprus, according to the President of the Cyprus Oncology Society, Anastasia Constantinidou. Dr. Constantinidou noted that prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men internationally, with cases expected to reach 2.9 million per year by 2040.

Dr. Constantinidou made the above statement during the 4th Scientific Conference “Talking in simple words about prostate cancer,” organized by the Oncology Center of the Bank of Cyprus in collaboration with Europa Uomo Cyprus. At the conference, distinguished scientists analyzed modern therapeutic and supportive approaches, with an emphasis on managing daily life after treatment.

Topics such as erectile dysfunction, the diagnostic approach and treatment of urinary incontinence, and the role of nutrition in patient care were presented. Dr. Petros Rodotheou, representative of the Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalampides, referred to the importance of a coordinated approach to tackling prostate cancer.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Oncology Center of the Bank of Cyprus, Christos Triantafyllides, emphasized the importance of information, while the President of Europa Uomo Cyprus, Andreas Moiseos, highlighted the need to empower the voice of patients. The President of the Cyprus Urological Society, noted the importance of prevention and early diagnosis.

Dr. Dimitrios Vombas mentioned that the treatment of prostate cancer extends to managing the effects on patients' daily lives. Doctors and health professionals from Cyprus and Greece participated in the conference.
