Foteini Tsiridou: Women's Empowerment and Challenges in 2026

Foteini Tsiridou, Member of Parliament for Limassol with the Democratic Rally party, spoke to Cyprus Times on the occasion of International Women's Day, regarding women's empowerment in 2026 and the challenges women face today.

Ms. Tsiridou emphasized that empowerment is a way of life and includes economic independence, access to quality work, protection from violence, and inner balance. She also highlighted the importance of women being able to choose their path without obstacles and stereotypes.

Referring to the current situation, Foteini Tsiridou noted that women are more educated and present in decision-making centers, but there is a global questioning of acquired rights in the area of equality. She stressed the need for vigilance in maintaining achievements and promoting equality as a prerequisite for sustainable development.

The MP emphasized the crucial role of role models and the value of systematic work and cooperation. Ahead of the May elections, Foteini Tsiridou highlighted the importance of creating a society that gives equal opportunities to all and referred to legislative initiatives to strengthen the role of the mother and support the family.

Finally, Foteini Tsiridou stated that empowerment comes with consistency and collective effort, calling on women to actively participate for progress.
