Social Support for 255 Fire-Affected Families

The Deputy Minister of Social Welfare, Marilena Evaggelou, announced that support and guidance have been provided to 255 fire-affected families. Additionally, 189 families received financial support for emergency needs.

The statements were made during a meeting with the community leaders of the fire-affected areas in Pachna. Ms. Evaggelou also visited villages in the affected areas.

A special program is underway in the affected areas, with the participation of social service workers and neighborhood workers. Social support is provided in cooperation with local authorities and the local community.

The Commissioner for the Development of Mountainous Areas, Charalambos Christofinas, stated that the priority is to create social infrastructure to support the communities. The creation of two new Community Volunteer Councils (SKE) is planned in the fire-affected areas, at a cost of approximately half a million euros each. The creation of new kindergartens and the expansion of the kindergarten in Pachna are also planned.

The Deputy Minister also referred to the institution of the neighborhood social worker, which is implemented in 19 municipalities and 242 communities island-wide, with the aim of decentralizing social services.
