Critical Blood Shortage – Risk of Surgery Postponements

Severe blood shortages are being recorded, with reserves at dangerously low levels, according to the Head of the Blood Center, Androulla Panagiotou.

Ms. Panagiotou appealed to citizens to visit blood donation stations, as there is a risk of surgery postponements and transfusions may be delayed due to the shortage. Blood needs amount to 300 bottles daily.

Next week, blood donations will be held at the Mall of Nicosia. Blood donation stations in Nicosia and Limassol will be open from 07:30 to 20:00. In Paphos and Larnaca, full-day hours, unless called for external blood donation, in which case they will operate from 07:30 to 15:00.
