Cyprus recorded an 8.9% decrease in road deaths over the last decade, according to the 19th annual Road Safety PIN Report. The report presents road safety data for 2024 in the 27 member states of the European Union (EU27), as well as in Switzerland, Israel, Norway, Serbia and the United Kingdom.

Regarding road deaths per population, Cyprus ranked 13th in 2024, compared to 6th in 2023, with an increase in deaths from 34 to 41. The road death rate per population for Cyprus was 42, while for the EU27 it was 45.

Cyprus achieved a significant reduction in serious injuries by 51.6% from 2014 to 2024, the highest rate in the EU24. Only 11 EU27 countries reduced both road deaths and serious injuries during the same period.

In the EU, 20,017 people lost their lives on the roads in 2024, with a slight decrease of 2% compared to 2023, a rate that falls short of the target of a 50% reduction by 2030. Cyprus recorded a 21% increase in road deaths between 2023 and 2024.

Compared to 2019, Cyprus recorded a 21% decrease in road deaths by 2024. Norway was awarded for its commitment to road safety and the reduction of road deaths.

Norway remains the safest country for road users, with 16 deaths per million population, compared to 42 in Cyprus and 45 in the EU27.
