Low Demand for Sports-Related Professions in the EU

In the EU, 1.6 million people are employed in sports, representing 0.8% of total employment. In Cyprus, this percentage was 0.7% in 2024, according to Eurostat data.
Men constitute 56.3% of those employed in sports in the EU. In Cyprus, 69.4% of those employed in sports were men.
In 2024, 40.7% of those employed in sports in the EU had completed tertiary education, slightly higher than the overall employment rate (38.7%). In Cyprus, 74.3% of those working in sports had tertiary education.
In 22 out of the 27 EU countries, employment in sports increased between 2021 and 2024. In Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Finland, France, Estonia, Ireland, the Netherlands, and Portugal, employment in sports accounted for at least 1% of total employment.
