Cyprus recorded an 8.9% decrease in road deaths over the last decade, according to the 19th annual Road Safety PIN Report. The report presents road safety data for 2024 in the 27 member states of the European Union (EU27), as well as in Switzerland, Israel, Norway, Serbia, and the United Kingdom.

The EU27 saw a 17.2% decrease in road deaths over the last decade. In 2024, Cyprus ranked 13th (along with Lithuania) in the EU in terms of road deaths per population, having increased from 34 to 41 deaths. The road death index for Cyprus was 42, compared to 45 for the EU27.

The report states that the reduction in serious road injuries in the period 2014-2024 was only 13.8% in the 24 EU member states that provided data. Cyprus, however, achieved a significant reduction in serious injuries by 51.6%, the highest rate in the EU24.

Only Cyprus and 10 other EU27 countries reduced both road deaths and serious injuries from 2014 to 2024. The report also makes special mention of Cyprus's goal to achieve 100% of the defined ideal ambulance arrival times at road collision sites by 2030.

Overall, 20,017 people lost their lives on EU roads in 2024, with a slight decrease of only 2% compared to 2023, a rate far short of the necessary annual reduction of 6.1% to achieve the EU target of a 50% reduction by 2030. Cyprus recorded a 21% increase in road deaths during the same period.

The annual “2025 Road Safety PIN Award” is awarded to Norway for its commitment to road safety and success in reducing road deaths. Norway remains the safest country for road users, with 16 deaths per million population, compared to 42 in Cyprus and 45 in the EU27.
