The Pancyprian Association of Cancer Patients and Friends (PASYKAF) welcomes the approval of the bill for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) by the Council of Ministers on March 11, 2026.

The establishment of the NCI is a significant step towards better coordination and holistic management of cancer-related issues in Cyprus. The Institute will operate as an autonomous scientific body, undertaking the coordination and supervision of oncology matters.

PASYKAF had submitted a proposal for the creation of the NCI since 2016 to the Ministry of Health and the National Cancer Committee, which was also reflected in the National Cancer Strategy of 2019.

The Executive Director of PASYKAF, Mr. Nikolas Philippou, stated that the approval of the bill is a significant development and a long-term goal of the Association, as it can contribute to better coordination of services and strengthening the national cancer strategy.

PASYKAF is committed to actively contributing to the National Cancer Institute becoming a pillar for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, research, and care of cancer in Cyprus.
