Hungarian President Awards Anastasios Garipis for Sea Rescue

The President of Hungary, Tamás Sulyok, awarded 21-year-old Greek Anastasios Garipis and Spanish Iset Segura for rescuing a Hungarian father and his 10-year-old daughter in Epanomi, Thessaloniki.
The award ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace in Budapest, with Mr. Sulyok emphasizing that their act is an example of humanity and heroism. Anastasios Garipis stated that the sea taught him that freedom is made of responsibility.
Stelios Gapiris mentioned that Anastasios and Iset were awarded the Gold Medal of Honor. The Greek Ambassador Spyros Georgiles and representatives of the Spanish government attended the ceremony.
In July, Anastasios and Iset rescued the Hungarian tourist and his daughter, who had been swept away by the currents. The local hunting club, the coast guard, the ambulance service (EKAB), and the police immediately rushed to assist in the rescue operation.
Anastasios Garipis has received other awards, including the gold medal at the European Laser 4.7 Youth U18 in 2020.
