Referrals to Specialists: 12-Month Validity from July 31

The Health Insurance Organisation (HIO) announced that, effective July 31, the validity of referrals to Specialist Doctors is extended to 12 months from the date of issue. The number of visits remains two per referral.

The change applies only to referrals issued from July 31 onwards. Referrals issued before this date retain the original validity of 6 months.

The decision was made following requests from scientific societies and experience from the operation of the GHS. The new regulation aims to improve the service and flexibility for beneficiaries.
