Shocking Reports of Living Conditions for Vulnerable Families in Cyprus

Shocking reports regarding the living conditions of vulnerable families in Cyprus were made at the Human Rights Committee. Members of Parliament referred to cases of families with minor children who ended up on the streets and a child with quadriplegia housed in a garage.
Irene Charalambidou mentioned a family from Lebanon with six children who were left homeless while awaiting repatriation. Christos Senekis reported that KEDIPES evicted a family with a child with quadriplegia from their home, resulting in them converting the garage into a room for the child.
The Deputy Minister of Migration, Nikolas Ioannidis, expressed his regret for the situation of the family from Lebanon, emphasizing that changes in their data caused confusion among the services. The General Director of the Deputy Ministry of Social Welfare, Yannis Nikolaidis, rejected the accusations of indifference from the Welfare Services.
A police representative stated that the family arrived in Cyprus by boat in 2022, en route to Italy, while Irene Charalambidou requested a written report on the actions of the involved services.
