OEB warns of private hospital closures due to nurse shortage

OEB has expressed strong concern about the shortage of nurses in private hospitals, following a recommendation from the Ministry of Health to close beds in a hospital due to understaffing. The Director General of OEB, Michalis Antoniou, warned of possible closures if the problem is not resolved.
The Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambides, stated that the Ministry wishes to avoid the closure of hospitals and that instructions have been given to find solutions. A meeting with the hospital is planned and suggestions are expected to address the problem.
Private hospitals are requesting that the same employment criteria apply to Cypriot and foreign nurses with recognized degrees and knowledge of the Greek language.
