Nearly One in Four in the EU Faces Disability – Cyprus Data

Nearly 23.9% of individuals over 16 in the EU reported experiencing some form of disability in 2024, according to Eurostat data.
Across EU member states, this percentage ranges from 12.7% in Bulgaria to 41.2% in Latvia. Latvia recorded the highest rates in both severe (11.1%) and partial disability (30.1%).
Women and Disability: Women in the EU are more likely to report a disability compared to men. The largest differences were recorded in Portugal, the Netherlands, and Finland. In Cyprus, the gender difference is among the smallest.
Age and Disability: Older individuals are more likely to report a disability. In 2024, 7.1% of individuals aged 16-24 reported a disability, while this percentage increases to 72.3% for individuals aged 85 and over.
Income, Education, and Disability: Individuals with lower income and lower educational attainment are more likely to report a disability.
In Cyprus, the gap between individuals with the lowest and highest educational levels was 35.4 points.
