Dr. Foteini Sofokleous Passes Away, Mourned in Cyprus

Dr. Foteini Sofokleous, known as "Toula", has passed away, leaving the medical community in Cyprus in mourning. The news was announced by Pediatric Oncologist Loizos G. Loizou on social media.

For 30 years, Dr. Sofokleous was a key pillar of the Pediatric Oncology Clinic and the ELPIDA Foundation, providing significant services to children with cancer and leukemia. Her contribution to the development of laboratory hematology in Cyprus was crucial, especially in the care of children with thalassemia.

Dr. Loizou emphasized their significant collaboration since 1990, when he founded the services for children with cancer and leukemia. Together they founded the specialized Pediatric Hematology – Pediatric Oncology laboratory at Archbishop Makarios III Hospital.

The Pancyprian Association of Parents and Friends of the Pediatric Oncology Unit also expressed its deep sorrow for the loss of Dr. Sofokleous.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 16:30, at the Church of Agios Nikolaos in Engomi, Nicosia.

The ELPIDA Foundation has decided to establish the "Foteini Sofokleous" Scholarship for children who have overcome cancer.
