The Cyprus Prison Department has officially denied claims regarding living and hygiene conditions at the Central Prisons, particularly in the women's wing. The announcement followed reports alleging unacceptable food and hygiene conditions.

The Prison Department emphasizes that the quality and quantity of meals are satisfactory and that food preparation is supervised by professional chefs, with a focus on cleanliness. The facilities undergo regular health inspections.

The Prison Department states that meals are checked by nutritionists and health services and tailored to inmates' needs through seven different options. It also denies claims of stomach disorders due to the food.

Regarding claims of finding a mouse, cockroach, and tooth in the food, the Prison Department calls them false and malicious. It also rejects claims of delayed food distribution and refusal to provide a microwave, as well as shower problems in the women's wing.

The Pompidou Group recently visited the women's wing and found no complaints from inmates. The Prison Department is subject to oversight by various organizations and embassies, with no complaints reported.
