August 10, 1922: The 'Birth' of the Name 'Panathinaikos'

On August 10, 1922, the club founded by Georgios Kalafatis in 1908 was renamed Panathinaikos Athletic Club. This was the fourth and final name change for the club.
The choice of the name 'Panathinaikos' symbolized a club that represented all of Athens and Greece, not just one class or neighborhood. It also marked the beginning of an organized multi-sport club, with investments in sports such as basketball, track and field, and swimming.
On the SKAI TV show 'Atairiastoi', Giannis Ntsounos called August 10 the 'World Panathinaikos Founding Day'.
