Emilea Zingas, 23, with roots from Paphos, Cyprus, made history at the Milano/Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The figure skater, along with her partner Vadym Kolesnik, achieved 5th place, an unprecedented feat for first-timers.

The duo, representing the United States, set a record with 206.72 points. Zingas, born in Michigan, has Cypriot roots from her grandparents who originate from Paphos.

She stated she was proud of her heritage and grateful for the support of her family, who traveled from the USA and Cyprus to encourage her. Zingas had participated in the World Figure Skating Championship in 2021.
