Giorgos Savvidis spoke to sport-fm.gr about the game between Aris and AEK Athens. He referred to the period when he was captain of AEK.

As he characteristically said: "The fact that I was captain at AEK made it even more honorable. I came to AEK after consecutive championships with Omonia. After a year, Manolas had problems with Zafiropoulos and tells me 'You will become captain'. I replied to him, 'Stelara, it's not possible, I've only been on the team for a year, there are kids here who have been here for eight and ten years, how will I become captain?' He replied, 'What are you saying? They won't become it, you will become captain'. And that's how I became it."

Savvidis added: "I never believed that my teammates would see me hostilely, there just needs to be respect for the elders. I was coming as a champion from Omonia and I didn't like the mentality that existed at AEK, we had to change to become champions. Manolas appreciated this and gave me the armband. I didn't accept losing, that's how I was as a football player. That's why they voted for me and I became captain of AEK."

Finally, he noted: "In the locker room, I was one of the people who helped to create a good climate, friendly, family, jokes and everything else that is necessary to have the right balances in the team. Of course, Bajević had the greatest responsibility for all this, without him nothing would have happened."
