Georgia Despollari improves U23 national record in 800m

Georgia Despollari achieved a new improvement in her U23 national record in the 800m, during a competition in Leuven, Belgium. The young athlete finished 4th at the Meeting voor Mon 2025 with a time of 2:00.69, improving her previous record (2:00.92) from the European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen in July.
This performance brings her closer to Elena Filandra's 2:00.44, the second-best performance of all time in Greece. The women's national record remains Maria Papadopoulou's 1:59.79 from 2005.
The race in Belgium, category D, gave Despollari 1175 points, raising her total score in the world ranking to 1180. Although she improved her position, she remains short of qualifying for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, with the limit being 1191 points.
