Balkan Race Walking: Qualification for Birmingham and 6 Medals

Penny Tsinopoulou qualified for the European Championships in Birmingham at the Balkan Race Walking Championships held in Smyrna. The national team won a total of six medals and set three national records.
Tsinopoulou won the marathon race walk with a time of 3:38.14, improving the national record. Alexandros Papamichail won the gold medal in the half marathon race walk with a time of 1:31.44, also improving the national record. Andreas Papastergiou finished third in the same distance.
Christina Papadopoulou won the silver medal in the half marathon race walk, while Sofia Alikanioti finished sixth. Giorgos Kelepouris won the silver medal in the marathon race walk. Hara Gerou won the gold medal in the 5 km race walk, achieving a personal best and qualifying for the World U20 Championships.
In the 10 km race walk for Women U20, Paraskevi – Melina Louka finished seventh and Chrysa Esmerli eighth. In the corresponding boys' event, Fotis-Dionysis Kladis finished seventh. In the 10 km race walk U18, Grigoris Tsiatsios finished seventh.
